Brasil es un país con una rica diversidad biológica distribuida en seis biomas terrestres diferentes. Sus recursos naturales, así como sus valores históricos y culturales, son un patrimonio poco conocido en el exterior e incluso dentro del propio país. Las colecciones etnobotánicas tienen el objetivo de testimoniar la relación entre pueblos y plantas. En España hay dos colecciones etnobotánicas destacables que contienen una cantidad significativa de piezas originarias de Brasil: la Colección Etnobotánica de la Facultad de Ciencias Biológicas de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y la colección del Museo de Etnobotánica del Jardín Botánico de Córdoba. En el presente trabajo hemos desarrollado un estudio sobre los materiales procedentes de Brasil en ambas colecciones, con el objetivo de identificar su relación con las especies de la flora brasileña, sus aplicaciones tradicionales, las regiones y los biomas. Desde esta perspectiva, se procedió a profundizar en el estudio de los objetos, tomando datos de las especies que constituyen sus materias primas, funciones y características. Las piezas son originarias de diferentes regiones de Brasil y muchas representan aspectos de las tradiciones culturales locales. Los objetos o muestras son representativos de especies vegetales conocidas por sus aplicaciones folclóricas, alimentarias, medicinales, colorantes y como materia prima para instrumentos musicales, artesanía e industria. A partir de ellos, ha sido posible realizar análisis geográficos sobre la presencia actual de las especies en los diferentes biomas brasileños y en las distintas regiones del país. El estudio bibliográfico confirma que los objetos de estas colecciones son parte del acervo cultural de diferentes territorios de Brasil y permite el análisis sobre la vigencia de sus usos a lo largo de los siglos.

Brazil is a country with a rich biodiversity distributed in six different terrestrial biomes. Its natural resources, historical heritage and cultural values, are little known abroad and even within the country. In Spain there are two outstanding ethnobotanical collections that contain a significant amount of species originating from Brazil: The Ethnobotanical Collection of the Biological Sciences College at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the collection from the Cordoba Botanical Garden Ethnobotanical Museum. In this paper we carried out a study on materials from Brazil in both collections, with the aim of identifying their relationship with species from the Brazilian flora, their traditional applications, regions and biomes. Thereafter the study was deepened by taking data from samples of the species that constitute its raw materials, functions and characteristics. Samples come from different regions of Brazil and represent many aspects of the local cultural traditions. Samples are representative of the known species for their applications as folk, food, medicinal, dyes and as well as raw materials for making musical instruments, handicrafts and industrial plants. From these materials, it has been possible to make geographical analysis of the current presence of the species in the different Brazilian biomes and in different regions of the country. The literature review confirms that the objects of these collections are part of the cultural heritage of different Brazilian territories and they allow the analysis of the validity of its uses over the centuries.
